On 30th March 2020 Microsoft announced there will be a rebrand to some Office 365 business plans. Though a few Office 365 business plans will remain the same, the others will switch to incorporate Microsoft 365 (M365).
When Microsoft 365 was originally launched a few years ago, the term referred to a subscription bundle that included: Windows 10 Enterprise, Office 365 and Enterprise Mobility + Security. With the rebranding, this definition will now extend to include and PC/device management tools.
The new name changes will go into effect on 21st April 2020.
What will change?
- Office 365 Business Essentials to Microsoft 365 Business Basic
- Office 365 Business Premium to Microsoft 365 Business Standard
- Office 365 Business and Office 365 Pro Plus to Microsoft 365 Apps “for business” and “for enterprise” to distinguish one another
- Office 365 subscriptions for SMBs are switching to M365.
- Office 365 ProPlus to “Microsoft 365 Apps for the enterprise.”
As a partner to Microsoft, a reseller of Microsoft products, or even an end user, the only difference you will encounter is the name change.
What will not change?
Microsoft advises not to be alarmed when you see the name changes on dashboard, etc. They also confirmed there would be no pricing or feature changes.
